 Eligibility

  • Must be at least 16 years of age and no older than 19 years of age by August 2024 &
    Must be at at least 14 years of age and no older than 17 of age by August 2024 for the Jr. division.

  • Must be a SENIOR currently enrolled as a full-time high school student in the United States or
    Must be a FRESHMAN, SOPHMORE, or JUNIOR currently enrolled as a full-time high school student for the Jr. division.

  • Must be of good health and moral character. Must be a citizen of the United States.

  • Must be aspire to attend an HBCU after high school (to apply)

  • Must now reside in a U.S. state as your permanent and primary residence for the full period of at least a year
    immediately prior to the beginning of the pageant (although you may attend a college or university elsewhere).

Judging Criteria

The results from these 5 phases of competition are added up, and the contestants with the highest composite scores win the crown and scholarships in ranking order:

  • Interview 30% - Each contestant will have allotted time with the judges prior to the pageant for an interview

  • Talent 25% – Each contestant has an opportunity to display their talents and skills via performance in front of judges and the audience

  • Question & Answer 25% – After gowns are presented, one on-stage question will be conducted by the host for each contestant to answer

  • Evening Gown Presentation 15% – Each contestant wears a gown they choose for themselves. Attention is focused on presentation of the gown, stage presence, poise, and the confidence each contestant carries

  • Program Participation 5% - Contestants must participate in a minimum number of development workshops

 FAQ’s

+ How long is the entire pageant process?

Contestants will have access to development workshops once a week for two months leading up to the pageant. There will be few rehearsals virtually prior to pageant weekend.

+ How many contestants are chosen to compete for the Miss HBCU Teen Pageant?

We select contestants on a first come first serve basis to compete in the Miss HBCU Teen & Miss HBCU Junior Teen Pageant. No more than 50 contestants per division will be able to compete.

+ What is the age requirement?

For the Senior division, each contestant has to be between the ages of 16-19 to participate. For the Jr. division, each contestant has to be between the ages of 14-17 to participate.

+ How much do contestants have to fundraise?

Each Sr. contestant must raise $1,200 to compete and hold their title. For the Jr. contestants, they must raise $1,000. We introduce payment plans, resources, potential sponsors & alumni support to contestants for help.

+ Do you have to be an Atlanta, Maryland, Virginia, or Washington, D.C. resident to participate?

Not at all. We are nationwide and will have State Titleholders for any state an applicant applies, interviews, and is awarded. You must be a resident of the United States. All workshops are virtual.

+ What if my HBCU is outside of my residential state, can I still compete?

Yes, you can!

+ Do I need to have any pageant experience to compete in the Miss HBCU Teen Pageant?

Not at all! Our goal is to provide a taste of that experience to motivate & inspire you to continue pageantry at your HBCU.

+ What are the benefits of winning a title with Miss HBCU Teen Scholarship Pageant?

Over $10,000 in scholarships and awards, sisterhood network, public appearances, resourceful networking connections and platform, cosmetic gifts, community service and more.

+ What is the judging criteria?

Contestants will be judged/scored in five categories: Interview, Talent, Gown Presentation, Question & Answer, and Development Workshop Participation.

+ If I win, will it interfere with school?

Not at all, school is the number one priority! Our pageant encourages your success and is here to support both your academic and community endeavors through time management.
